Susan Handelman... Empowerment for Acting

"They told me...
'you're a completely different actor than you were a year ago,'
...and I said "that's because of Sooze."

A New Trier high school alum, Maddie worked with Susan as her private coach all throughout her high school career-- booking many lead roles in New Trier's renowned theatre department. In 2008, Maddie won New Trier's Goodman Theatre Award for Outstanding Achievement in Acting. Since graduating in 2009, Maddie has lived in Los Angeles and received a BA in Psychology and Film at UCLA. She's signed with a top management group and agency in Los Angeles and is currently a full-time working actor. You may have seen her most recently on her national FedEx commercial. Her credits include a lead role in a MTV pilot "Self Promotion," directed by Zach Braff, as well as a guest starring role on Nickelodeon. She recently wrapped a movie in New Orleans, "Camera Store," starring opposite John Larroquette and Cheryl Ladd. The movie will be released in late 2016.

Where do I even begin with my love for Sooze? I first met her when I was 14 years old and she has played a prominent role in my life ever since. I'll never forget auditioning for the New Trier Theatre Department after a year of private coaching. They told me "you're a completely different actor than you were a year ago," and I said "that's because of Sooze." I went on that year to win the highest award my school offered for acting, the Goodman Theatre Award. Since moving to LA, Sooze and I have stayed close. She watches all of my audition tapes and gives me notes. I know I can always trust her eye and honest opinion of my work. She pushes you to be better than even you think you can be. Sooze puts her heart and soul into everything she does, you can count yourself one of the luckiest ones to have her in your corner. ~Maddie
